I find myself checking them two to three times per day. This is the
first time I've ever really cared about generating traffic on a web
site and to be honest it is the first time I've ever put any effort
into it. Such a thing does relate to entrepreneurship, if a person is
trying to start a business on the Internet, so I'm looking at this
whole thing as a learning experience.
Anyway, one of the things I've been watching is the Google PageRank
metric. When I started the blog back in September and up until a couple
of days ago my rank was 0 out of 10(There is a very detailed
explanation of Google page ranking here).
Since that time I kept thinking to myself "oh wouldn't it be nice if I
could score just a 1, 2 or maybe even 3 on the Google PageRank." Well
today I checked and saw that my Java Entrepreneur blog is now scoring a
6 out of 10... WOW!
I'm getting traffic on the blog and I'm pretty happy about it. I've
tried to create at least one backlink from other blogs or forums
related to Java programming and or entrepreneurship every couple of
days. It seems that it is starting to pay off for me. However, the fact
that all the other blogs in the Creative Weblogging network, of which
there are about 50 blogs now, have links to my site helps a lot.
The only drawback is the realization that with all those page hits
and unique visitors I need to keep it fresh. I hate going to blogs and
seeing them simply cut and paste news articles from other sites. Now my
goal is to try and get more RSS subscribers. I'm not sure how to track
that type of thing so I guess I need to do some more homework.
